Computing

Computing

Rationale:

At Holme C of E Primary Academy, we understand the immense value that technology plays not only in supporting the Computing and wider school curriculum, but overall in the day-to-day life of our school. Our intention is to provide high-quality computing education which equips children to:

  • Be responsible, respectful, competent, confident and creative users of data, information and communication technology.
  • Know how to keep themselves safe whilst using technology and or/ the internet and minimise risks to themselves and others.
  • Use computational thinking and creativity to further understand our world.
  • Be digitally literate, active participants in a digital world and ready for their next stage of education.

Implementation:

Computing Curriculum Overview - Cycle A Computing Curriculum Overview - Cycle B

Impact:

Our Computing curriculum is high quality, knowledge-based, well-sequenced and is planned to demonstrate progression. If our pupils have understood and retained knowledge from the carefully sequenced curriculum we have taught, we know that they are where they should be.

At Holme C of E Primary Academy, we ensure that children are equipped with computing skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the curriculum at Key Stage 3 and for life as an adult in the wider world.

We want the children to have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Computing, therefore encouraging them to undertake new life experiences now and in the future.

Keeping Safe Online:

Keeping safe online is an essential element taught in our computing curriculum.  It feeds through all elements of learning as well as having specific units which teach children specific areas to know and understand.  We also ensure we use national promotions, such as National Safer Internet Day, to remind the children of these elements.

Please find below our progression of Online Safety along with some additional support materials which have been shared with families via Class Dojo within the last year.

If you would like any furthing information about our Computing curriculum of how to support your child in keeping safe online, please contact our Computing Lead, Mrs Barnard (lbarnard@holme.cambs.sch.uk), for more information or sign up for one of our upcoming workshops.
